Procter:Rihl is a multidisciplinary practice
for architecture and furniture design since 1995. Christopher
Procter and Fernando Rihl trained at the Architectural Association
(London), Carnegie-Mellon University (US) and University Federal
Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The studio has a high expertise
in sustainable issues, daylight studies, low energy design,
manufacturing process, and landscape design. Prior experience
with well-known London offices such as Rick Mather, Allies
and Morrison, Jestico + Whiles and Zaha Hadid has given us
experience with larger projects.
We believe architecture should be climate
and culture responsive. Cultural identity should be retained
and can be improved through responsive architecture. Our practice
is interested in reinterpreting local design and architectural
archetypes with current design and energy use sensibilities.
With each project we employ materials that have local contextual
qualities. Spatially, the practice aims to explore complex
geometries in architecture to create exciting experiences
of space. A simple shift or stretching of a traditional form
can produce an illusion of greater space.
The practice has a special interest in sustainable
design and is currently building a hyper-insulated house.
This project employs new prefabricated systems to maximum
potential and will give us insights toward reaching elusive
zero energy use in buildings.
Procter:Rihl won a Gold Medal at Chelsea
Flower Show 2000, received a Royal Institute of British
Architects Award 2005, and was shortlisted for; Grand Design
Award 2006, BD-Residential Architect of the Year Award 2005,
IV Ibero-Latin American Architecture Biennale Award 2004. |
